Year in, year out Viña Ardanza scoops 90+ point scores from the biggest critics. La Rioja Alta, one of the region’s top wineries, plucks every single grape by hand. This juice sees a luxurious 36 months in oak. These tricks bring an abundance of complexity to your glass. You’re in for oodles of sweet cherry, blackcurrant and vanilla flavours.
  • Grape variety: 78% Tempranillo, 22% Garnacha.
  • D.O. Rioja
  • Vintage: 2016
  • Colour: Outstandingly bright, lively and intense garnet red, with an incipient cherry red rim.
  • Nose: The first note is very intense, with spicy, balsamic and ripe fruit notes. After swirling, aromas of black pepper, sweet liquorice, nutmeg, coffee, vanilla and cinnamon make their appearance.
  • Palate: Full of flavours, with a pleasant acidity and balance, and very polished tannins that enhance the harmonious structure. Complex and elegant after taste with spicy and balsamic hints.
  • Vineyards: The Tempranillo comes from over 30 year old vines in the Rioja Alta vineyards. The Garnacha comes from Rioja Oriental, offering unbeatable conditions for growing this variety.
  • Wine Making: Qualified as very good vintage.  The grapes were harvested manually in mid-October 2016 and transported to the winery in refrigerated vehicles. Alcoholic fermentation took place spontaneously. Malolactic fermentation concluded at the end of the year. In March 2017, the selected wines were put in barrels to start ageing separately: the Tempranillo for 36 months with 6 manual rackings, in American oak barrels averaging 4 years in age, and the Garnacha for 30 months with 5 manual rackings, in barrels with 2 and 3 uses. The final blend was bottled in March 2019 so the final ageing is a further 4 years.
  • Awards:  96 Points James Suckling
  • 75cl
  • 14.5% abv
  • Enjoy at 18° C
